MERCEDES-BENZ has rung the changes for the launch of its new C-Class and when saloon and estate models hit the streets in March there will be more than 2,000 new components.
The highest-selling model series for the boys at Benz, the current C-Class series has found more than one million buyers worldwide since its launch almost four years ago - some 98,000 sales in the UK.
And the German premium manufacturer is promising a treat for Merc fans thanks to the likes of 10 new safety systems, engines with up to 31 per cent better fuel consumption and a new generation of telematics with internet access.
Styling changes see the front and rear sections of the car given a more striking design with a new grille and front bumper, LED running lights and there's now a highresolution colour display screen in the instrument cluster and fresh dashboard with grained surface.
Efficiency-enhancing measures include new engines, the improved 7G-Tronic Plus auto transmission and Start/Stop, while the driving assistance systems range from the standard Attention Assist drowsiness detection to the optional Distronic Plus proximity control.
Most frugal of the new powerplants is the manual C220 CDI diesel, capable of returning 58.9mpg along with low CO2 emissions of 117g/km, and all models will be designated BlueEFFICIENCY.
All the petrol engines in the model series have direct injection, a highlight being the arrival of the new V6 unit with efficient BlueDIRECT process in the C 350, which now delivers 306bhp.
Prices will be announced closer to the launch date.
