Fed: Monarchists warn of republic race debate

Monarchists have warned the reconciliation process could be damaged if a second question
acknowledging indigenous occupation of Australia is put at the republic referendum.

Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD has virtually guaranteed a second question will be asked at the
November referendum and he's promised the government will act in good faith on the issue.

Although anti-republican, Mr HOWARD says national unity would be enhanced by finding a
workable way to recognise Australia's indigenous population.
