My beloved Arlington took another step toward its re-openingMonday when it joined other tracks in requesting racing dates fornext year.
Arlington chairman Richard L. Duchossois asked for 118 racingdates for 2000, beginning May 1 and ending Oct. 31, based on a five-day-a-week schedule. Duchossois is asking for a long meeting withhopes of again attracting top stables.
When Duchossois asked for a five-day-a-week schedule in 1998, theIllinois Racing Board gave Hawthorne those two dark Arlington dates.Almost all tracks in the United States operate on a five-day-a-weekschedule. Saratoga is one of a few tracks currently on a six-day-a-week schedule.
