NSW: Teen seriously injured after fall in Blue Mtns

SYDNEY, Dec 17 AAP - A teenage boy today suffered serious head injuries and a broken
leg when he fell 10 metres onto rocks at a swimming hole in the Blue Mountains National
Park.

An NRMA CareFlight spokesman said the 17-year-old visitor slipped and fell at Blue
Pools near Glenbrook at 9am (AEDT).

The boy, from Doonside in Sydney's west, was winched up to a helicopter and flown to
Nepean Hospital in a serious condition.

The fall is the third serious accident in the Blue Mountains National Park in a week.

On Wednesday a 14-year-old schoolgirl fell 200 metres to her death at the Hayman Lookout
while trying to retrieve a wallet.

The same day a 21-year-old woman was killed when she fell 10 metres after trying to
climb a waterfall in Wentworth Falls without proper equipment.

An NRMA CareFlight spokesman urged visitors to the recently World Heritage listed precinct
to be careful around cliffs and waterholes.

"A simple slip on moss or leaves near the edge of a cliff could lead to a fall and
either serious injury or death - as was the case in the three NRMA CareFlight missions
in just one week," he said.
