The military housing facility in Rotterdam, which once served as the home of former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, when he was a naval officer attending Union College in the early 1950s, will be undergoing a $1.5 renovation.
The Rotterdam Housing Area now maintained by the Watervliet Arsenal is located along Route 7 near the Rotterdam Industrial Park.
Groundbreaking ceremonies are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday with Col. Robert T. Walker, arsenal commander, as host.
U.S. Rep. Samuel S. Stratton, D-Schenectady, who helped secure federal funding for the project, will participate in the ceremony.
